Students gain industry insight on brewery tour
Molson Coors Brewing Company visited Burton and South Derbyshire College on Monday 17th October to offer Level 2 Catering and Hospitality students the opportunity to learn more about beer by taking part in a session that included an informative presentation, malted barley tasting and a brewery tour.
After tasting and smelling the malted barley, the students embarked on a Molson Coors brewery tour with Beer Expert, Aleks Toczek, which gave them an insight into the exciting world of beer making. Aleks shared his industry knowledge and experience with the students, giving them an in depth knowledge of the drinks that they serve to Mulberry customers. The trip aimed to help the students with the Food and Beverage unit of their course, which covers the different types of beer and how it is produced.
Aleks said: “It’s great that we have been given the opportunity to share Burton’s great brewing tradition with BSDC students. I believe it is important for people to have an understanding of how beer is made and how it can be enjoyed.”
Lecturer and Restaurant Manager, Denise Oliver said: “The non-alcoholic beer tasting and brewery tour was a great opportunity to help the students get a better understanding of brewing. I think these trips are an important part of the learning journey as it adds enrichment, experience and excitement to the course. Our partnership with industry leaders such as Molson Coors gives our students hands-on experience and helps them to gain the skills employers are looking for.”
