Course overview
This BA (Hons) top up course allows you to enhance relevant industry skills and processes, and graduate with a refined and professional portfolio of work in the field of Design Craft. You will work practically through client-led and negotiated briefs that require the recognition and application of professional practice. You will also be aware of professional expectations and be able to develop an independent route towards your individual career or postgraduate goals.
Your previous study or work experience may have been an opportunity for you to generate craft products using different media, often for commercial purposes – such as accessories, glass or ceramic ware, giftware etc. By studying the BA Hons Design Craft Top Up you will be able to use your previous experience and extend and refine your work whilst considering the current industry potential for your designs. For example, you may design and wholesale of giftware through a brand you have established, run workshops with local communities to provide craft-based opportunities for a wide variety of people, or create unique jewellery sold through museum and gallery shops.
Whatever your creative aspirations, the work you produce will have an identified commercial outlet and recognition of appropriate pricing and marketing dependent on your personal practice. You will combine development of your practice, alongside investigating and deepening your understanding of the current trends, themes and issues within the creative industries.
As you progress and your confidence grows, you will undertake increasingly complex, challenging and exciting projects. You will also receive advice and guidance on applying to jobs and masters level study.
Applications from mature candidates are welcomed and considered on an individual basis.
