Test your skills and show employers what you’re made of with Team BSDC. As part of the College’s competition team, you can take part in a range of competitions to hone your skills against the best talent from across the country. From competing in sport to showing off your industry skills – whether that’s in areas from hairdressing to bricklaying - it’s a great way to demonstrate your talents, get experience in thriving under pressure, and even get a head start in your chosen industry.

From in-house competitions to taking part in national and international WorldSkills competitions, joining Team BSDC will give you the chance to challenge your skills further.

Josie Pajor, Beauty Therapy

WorldSkills Advanced Beauty Bronze Medal Winner

“I’m overwhelmed to have won a medal! It was a very demanding competition and the bar was really high, so I was glad to have received such intense training at BSDC. My ultimate goal is to own my own salon.”

Nicola Sharratt, Hairdressing

WorldSkills Advanced Hairdressing Bronze Medal Winner

“Competing in WorldSkills competitions is a great experience which has taught me to be driven to achieve my goals and work under pressure. I’ve also been shortlisted for a place in the UK squad, so I will get to compete for the opportunity to represent the UK in the international finals in Abu Dhabi.

Danielle Slattery, Beauty Therapy

WorldSkills Advanced Beauty Gold Medal Winner

“It was an amazing experience and it was great to come out with a gold medal at the end. It was good to push myself and as I progressed through the competition, it made me ambitious to achieve more. Taking part in competitions gives you training and opportunities to make you stand out!”

Liam Ellison, Plumbing Apprentice

Third place in the SkillPLUMB competition and member of Squad UK for WorldSkills!

"It’s great to be part of WorldSkills Squad UK. You get to work on complex tasks that help you get new skills, and show you have the ability to work quickly and precisely. It feels good to know that you’re skilled at what you do. I eventually want to own my own plumbing business or get into teaching."

James Aucote, Carpentry Apprentice

First place in the SkillBuild regional finals!

"I put a lot of hard work in to prepare for the competition, so coming first has given me a real sense of achievement. I will now continue working hard to prepare for the national finals in November."
