In our state-of-the-art computer labs, you’ll work with powerful software like Unreal Engine and Blender to create high-quality visual content, and your own working game prototypes. These resources will allow you to master key techniques for crafting digital imagery, animation sequences, and immersive worlds, building a solid base in a range of specialised creative skills.

      In your second year, you’ll focus on showcasing the skills you’ve developed while preparing for your next steps in higher education, employment, or apprenticeships. You’ll build a portfolio that captures your creative and technical abilities, demonstrating a unique style and high-level proficiency. This year is all about elevating your work, with projects that align with your career goals and set you up for success in the games, animation, or visual effects industries.

    • Entry requirements

      Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 including either English or maths

      (or) A level 2 subject specific qualification including a level 2 or equivalent in either English or maths

      (or) Equivalent occupational experience including level 2 or equivalent in English or maths

    • What modules will I study?

      In Year 1, the focus is on developing foundational skills, starting from scratch with no prior knowledge of creative skills required. This year is all about building your confidence and competence in various disciplines.

      In Year 2, the emphasis shifts to progression and next steps, with continued skills development and a final project. This project offers you the opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of your learning journey, showcasing the skills and knowledge you have acquired throughout the course. Additionally, in Year 2, you will receive support with university applications and guidance in finding your next destination, whether it be in higher education, an apprenticeship, or employment.

    • How will I be assessed?

      The course assessment will be entirely based on coursework. You will be assessed on your ability to inform ideas, solve problems, demonstrate technical skills, practice professionally, and communicate effectively.

    • What can I do next?

      Completing this course can open doors to a variety of progression routes, particularly in Higher Education. You could pursue further studies in fields such as games development, games art, visual effects, or animation. You could also stay local with our own FSc Games Design & Animation course, validated by The University of Staffordshire. By building a strong foundation through this coursework, you'll be well-prepared to advance your education and career in the dynamic and ever-evolving creative industries.

That’s why all of our full time study programme courses include relevant industry work experience. It shows future employers you’ve got what it takes and are motivated to succeed. Not only does it look good on your CV, but it’s an opportunity to build up your confidence and industry contacts. Our Employment Hub works with over 500 local employers to ensure all students on full time study programmes have a high quality and meaningful work placement. So not only do you gain valuable work experience, it helps you decide on your future options, from choosing the right university course to finding the right employer. Work experience is a chance to you to spend time on an employer’s premises, observing the workplace, undertaking tasks (under supervision) alongside team members and learning the skills and behaviours needed at work. It’s designed to bridge the gap between your education and the world of work. It can help you to become aware of jobs you have not previously thought of, inform your career choices, develop your skills and help you gain the attitudes and behaviours expected at work.
