Course overview
This course will enable you to use industry standard software and techniques to create a portfolio which showcases your skills and abilities to universities or employers. You will learn about digital art and illustration, 2D animation and photography and how to apply these skills to create artwork for digital platforms such as social media as well as printed materials. You will be introduced to a wide range of techniques, materials and processes, supported with contextual studies and will explore both digital and physical methods of creating design using industry standard resources.
You will have opportunities to explore how these skills will support your progression into the creative industries.

Entry requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 including either English or maths
(or) A level 2 subject specific qualification including a level 2 or equivalent in either English or maths
(or) Equivalent occupational experience including level 2 or equivalent in English or maths
Applicants are required to submit 10 images of recent work; this could include developmental/sketchbook work and finished pieces. Each image can have up to 100 characters of supporting explanatory text. Submissions can be made in PowerPoint/Word/PDF formats and have a file size no larger than 20mb. -

Year 1: Informing ideas, problem solving, technical skill, professional practice, communication
Year 2: Progression to a creative career, problem solving, technical practice, professional skills and behaviours, industry brief

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed periodically on your understanding of each topic through a range of practical and written assessments.

What can I do next?
Upon completion of the course, you can enter the industry at a junior level or continue into higher education to study illustration, animation or another digital pathway at degree level.

So not only do you gain valuable work experience, it helps you decide on your future options, from choosing the right university course to finding the right employer. Work experience is a chance to you to spend time on an employer’s premises, observing the workplace, undertaking tasks (under supervision) alongside team members and learning the skills and behaviours needed at work. It’s designed to bridge the gap between your education and the world of work. It can help you to become aware of jobs you have not previously thought of, inform your career choices, develop your skills and help you gain the attitudes and behaviours expected at work.
