    • What modules will I study?

Section 1: Understanding what dementia is
In this section, you will build your understanding of what dementia is, the key functions of the brain that are affected by it and why other conditions may be mistaken for dementia.

Section 2: Understanding key features of theoretical models of dementia
On completing this section, you will be able to accurately identify models of dementia within health and social care and understand dementia as a disability.

Section 3: Know the most common types of dementia and their causes
You will cover the most common causes of dementia, the signs and symptoms of these and the risk factors. You will also identify the prevalence rates for different types of dementia.

Section 4: Understanding factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia
You will cover how different individuals may experience living with dementia, depending on age, type of dementia and level of ability and disability. You will also learn about the impact that the attitudes and behaviours of others may have on an individual with dementia.

    • How will I be assessed?

      • Interactive and easy to navigate resources
      • Engaging videos and content, highlighting key knowledge and information
      • Case studies to demonstrate how skills can be applied in practical situations
      • An easy to use, integrated note-taking feature allowing you to jot down information as you work through the learning materials
      • A series of activities to support and prepare you for your assessment.

Assessments are completed online throughout your course to evaluate your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. They will be broken down into manageable tasks and once enrolled, you will receive an assessment schedule detailing deadlines so you can plan your studies. Assessments can take many forms but typically they are short written answers to a series of questions or statements.

    • What can I do next?

Upon completion of this online dementia awareness course, your learners could progress on to study our other dementia courses, such as the Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Dementia Care and the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care.
