    • Course overview

      This qualification aims to improve your understanding of nutrition and health, covering factors such as the principles of healthy eating and weight management, nutrition in the context of eating disorders and how to prepare food safely in a home environment.

      This is an online course. You will receive your welcome email with your course login details and further information within 48 hours of enrolment.

      On completion of the course you may be interested in doing Level 2 Gym Leader or the Level 3 Personal Trainer with the BSDC which is partnership with CIMSPA.

      How it works:

      You can sign up to our courses throughout the year. 

      Step 1: Register or login to fill out our online enrolment form by clicking the Apply Now button.

      Step 2: You will receive email confirmation and asked to send a copy of your ID, where relevant, within 48 hours.

      Step 3: You will be sent your login details to start your online learning. 

      Step 4: Depending on your course, you’ll either be automatically marked or have on-hand support and marking from a dedicated tutor. 

      Step 5: Depending on your course, you will either have access to a certificate download to print off, receive an e-certificate of achievement from the awarding body or receive a certificate through the post.

      Aged 19 years or over 

      Live in England

      Must have lived in the UK or EU for the 3 years prior to starting the course

      If aged 19-24 - must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above in any subject (i.e., QCF Diploma Level 2, five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C, two or three AS Levels, CSE grade 1 5 or more, one A-Level, QCF Certificate, GNVQ Intermediate, First Diploma, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).  

      If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.  

      Please note, although this is a funded programme, withdrawal or non-completion will result in a charge of £100 to cover administration, registration and learning resources.

    • What modules will I study?

      Unit 1: Explore the principles of healthy eating

      You will explore what a healthy diet is and how your diet directly affects your general health. You will also examine various lifestyle diseases, the role different nutrients play in assisting how your body functions and learn how to plan a healthy meal and prepare food safely.

      Unit 2: Consider the nutritional needs of a variety of individuals

      This unit looks at how nutritional needs alter with age from children up to older people, and focuses on the specific dietary requirements of these demographics. You will also learn the factors that create barriers to a healthy lifestyle.

      Unit 3: Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet

      You will gain an increased awareness of the information that is provided on food labels and how this can be used to plan healthier meals and encourage a healthier diet. You will also look at the advantages and disadvantages of food additives and evaluate your own diet.

      Unit 4: The principles of weight management

      This unit explores the risks associated with ineffective weight management and highlights how to implement effective methods of weight management. You will look at how societal demands for a particular body image can negatively influence weight management and how to plan a short-term weight management programme that works for you.

      Unit 5: Understand eating disorders

      You will study different eating disorders and their effect on health and well-being. You will also look in more detail at the complex connection between food and feelings and how to access information and support in relation to eating disorders.

      Unit 6: Principles of food safety for the home environment

      This unit will cover how to implement food safety in a safe environment, avoid contamination and identify hazards. You will also learn about the importance of personal hygiene when handling food. 

    • How will I be assessed?

      Case studies to demonstrate how skills can be applied in practical situations

      An easy to use, integrated note-taking feature allowing you to jot down information as you work through the learning materials

      A series of activities to support and prepare you for your assessment.

      Assessments are completed online throughout your course to evaluate your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. They will be broken down into manageable tasks and once enrolled, you will receive an assessment schedule detailing deadlines so you can plan your studies. Assessments can take many forms but typically they are short written answers to a series of questions or statements.
