Course overview
This course focuses on developing your theoretical and practical knowledge of anatomy, lifestyle, fitness, sports leadership and practical sport. Alongside the course, you will represent the College and Burton Albion Community Trust within the EFL Trust National League. You will get the chance to train and play on Burton Albion Community Trust’s state of the art 3G pitch.
The course combines practical and theory based approaches to increase an athlete’s performance on the field, and increase their knowledge of the wider sporting industry.
You will also have the opportunity to take part in activities and visits linked to the College’s partner organisations, including Burton Albion Community Trust and St. George’s Park. In addition, you may have the chance to achieve the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football (performance related).
As part of your programme, you will participate in a number of varied enrichment activities, trips and visits. Real life environment assessments are a feature within the qualification. Learners have access to our gym facilities at Fleet Street Fitness. The space is used weekly for delivery, assessment and personal fitness development.
As part of your study programme, you may be required to study English and maths if you have not achieved GCSE grade 4.

DBS – Disclosure and Barring Service
Due to the nature of this programme, it is assumed individuals will come into contact with children or vulnerable adults during their studies and within future employment. You will therefore be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check, known as a DBS. The DBS check will be completed during your programme enrolment and conducted under the strictest confidence. If the check comes back disclosing that criminal offences have been committed, the College will carry out a risk assessment to determine whether the offence disclosed may cause problems for you accessing the course and progressing into future employment. If this is the case, you will be advised about the implications and always offered advice and guidance. Not all offences are a risk, so the return of a DBS check may not impact on your choice. All DBS information is confidential and only those who need to know will be given the information.
