Course overview
The main role of a data analyst is to ascertain how data can be used in order to answer questions and solve problems. Data analysis is a process of requirement-gathering, inspecting, cleansing, transforming and modelling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions and supporting decision-making. Data analysis has multiple facets and approaches, encompassing diverse techniques under a variety of names.

Entry requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or an equivalent qualification.

What modules will I study?
Data Protection and Legal Issues, the data life cycle, the different types of data, including open and public data, administrative data, and research data, the differences between structured and unstructured data, the fundamentals of data structures, database system design, implementation and maintenance, the importance of the domain context for data analytics, the quality issues that can arise with data and how to avoid and/or resolve these, the importance of clearly defining customer requirements for data analysis, the processes and tools used for data integration, the steps involved in carrying out routine data analysis tasks, how to use and apply industry standard tools and methods for data analysis.

Completing a data analyst apprenticeship could lead to studying data analysis at a higher level, and job roles such as Data Analyst, Senior Data Analyst and Departmental Data Analyst.
