Millions of people fall ill every year and many die as a result of eating unsafe food. Most of these illnesses are attributed to contaminated food or water. Proper food preparation can prevent most foodborne diseases.
This course is suitable for those looking to gain the knowledge needed to understand health issues surrounding food safety and how to prevent unwanted illnesses. You will be introduced to the importance of personal hygiene, cleaning and contamination, and will be able to identify the consequences of poor hygiene and the benefits of good hygiene.
This is an online course. You will receive your welcome email with your course login details and further information within 48 hours of enrolment.

Step 4: Depending on your course, you’ll either be automatically marked or have on-hand support and marking from a dedicated tutor.
Step 5: Depending on your course, you will either have access to a certificate download to print off, receive an e-certificate of achievement from the awarding body or receive a certificate through the post.

What modules will I study?
Secton 1: Hygiene
This unit will introduce you to the importance of personal hygiene, cleaning and contamination, and will help you to identify the consequences of poor hygiene and the benefits of good hygiene.
Section 2: Food Poisoning
You will be able to identify symptoms of food poisoning and how these symptoms may develop.
Section 3: Food Safety Responsibilities
This unit introduces the legal and personal responsibilities towards food safety under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Section 4: Reporting Illness
You will understand which symptoms should be reported and how long before the person can return after being identified with these symptoms.
Section 5: Protective Clothing and Equipment
This will cover the importance of protective clothing and equipment when working with or near food.
Section 6: Contamination
You will understand the precautions that must be taken to prevent the contamination of food and work surfaces.
