Course overview
This is a two year study programme which is equivalent to 3 A Levels and will accrue UCAS points should your chosen progression route be a UK university.
Step into the future of technology with AI, Data & Cyber Futures. This forward looking Level 3 programme combines Software Development, Data Analytics and Cyber Security to provide a specialist technical pathway for learners who want to be at the cutting edge of digital innovation.
You will develop advanced skills in coding, data analysis and cyber security while exploring how these disciplines are shaping the future of work. Alongside your technical learning, you’ll complete practical projects designed to reflect real industry scenarios, ensuring you gain both the confidence and competence employers demand.
Learners also have access to BSDC’s state-of-the-art Cyber Lab, a dedicated facility designed to simulate real world cyber security environments. This unique learning space allows learners to develop practical skills making learning both authentic and industry relevant.
Whether you want to design intelligent systems, unlock the power of big data or protect organisations from cyber threats, this programme will prepare you for progression into higher education, apprenticeships, or entry into digital careers.
Learners benefit from activities supporting career pathways into computing, digital and IT roles including Cisco and other industry recognised tools to enhance learning.
The college has strong links with employers and Staffordshire University, providing opportunities for real world projects and progression.
There are also opportunities to take part in WorldSkills competitions and training.

Entry requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4, including GCSE English grade 4 and GCSE maths grade 3 or higher.
(or) a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4, including GCSE maths grade 4 and GCSE English grade 3 or higher.
(or) a Level 2 subject specific qualification including maths and English as stated previously
(or) an equivalent occupational experience including a level 2 and maths and English as stated previously.

Software Development – Coding, app design, testing and deployment
Emerging Technologies – AI, cloud and the ethical use of digital systems
Data Analytics – Data modelling, analysis and applied insights for business
Cyber Security – Threats, vulnerabilities, protection and incident response
Professional Skills – Communication, teamwork and project delivery in a digital environment

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is through a combination of practical project work, written assignments and externally set tasks and exams.
This ensures you can demonstrate both your technical knowledge and your ability to apply skills in real world contexts.

- Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) such as FdSc Cyber Security at BSDC (Staffordshire University)
- Degree level study in Software Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security or Computer Science
- Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in Computing Digital or IT fields
- Roles such as Junior Software Developer, Data Analyst or Cyber Security Technician
