    • Course overview

      This course offer an introduction to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression as an electrician within industry. It gives the opportunity to learn the practical skills involved in the installation of electrical systems in a safe environment while teaching the underpinning principles that allow for an understanding of the design and implementation of systems.

      Our qualifications are taught by fully qualified industry professionals, passing on their knowledge to allow you to enter a driven industry and lead in the future of the sector.

      Studies at the Stephen Burke Construction Academy allow you to progress in safe, realistic working environments. You’ll learn practical skills alongside the underpinning principles required to be successful in the industry. 

      All courses offer enrichment opportunities and work experience with partners in the industry such as St. Modwen Homes to offer the chance to complete exciting customer and industry driven projects and gain experiences which bridge the gap between education and employment.

      Each year, learners are also given the opportunity to be nominated for a prestigious learner of the year award which guarantees an interview for an exciting position at St. Modwen Homes as trainee in either Site Management/Technical Management or Quantity Surveying.

    • Entry requirements

      Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or an equivalent qualification including GCSE maths grade 3 or level 1 equivalent in maths

    • What modules will I study?
      • Health and safety
      • Installation of wiring systems and enclosures
      • Understanding how to communicate with others within building services engineering
    • How will I be assessed?

      You will be assessed on a modular basis, with a mixture of online examinations, practical tasks and written projects.

    • What can I do next?

      On completion of this course and upon gaining suitable employment in the industry, it is possible to enter the apprenticeship scheme and study towards a full electrical trade qualification. Alternatively, the course offers opportunities to continue full time study through the Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification.

    • English & Maths

      Being confident with maths and English is not only important for everyday life but it’s expected as standard in the world of work. We’re committed to ensuring our learners have the full range of skills that universities and employers are looking for. If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 (grade C) in English and maths and are aged between 16-18 years, you will continue to study these by undertaking a GCSE re-sit programme or appropriate stepping stone qualifications in addition to your vocational learning programme.

    • Uniform

      As part of your course, you will be required to purchase an industry related uniform and/or kit. Please find details of industry related uniforms in the Student Life section of the website.

      If you live independently and are in receipt of certain means tested benefits in your own right or live in a low-income household, you may be eligible for one of our grants.       We believe that the best way to get a real sense of your chosen industry is to try it out for yourself! That’s why all of our full time study programme courses include relevant industry work experience. It shows future employers you’ve got what it takes and are motivated to succeed. Not only does it look good on your CV, but it’s an opportunity to build up your confidence and industry contacts. Our Employment Hub works with over 500 local employers to ensure all students on full time study programmes have a high quality and meaningful work placement. So not only do you gain valuable work experience, it helps you decide on your future options, from choosing the right university course to finding the right employer. Work experience is a chance to you to spend time on an employer’s premises, observing the workplace, undertaking tasks (under supervision) alongside team members and learning the skills and behaviours needed at work. It’s designed to bridge the gap between your education and the world of work. It can help you to become aware of jobs you have not previously thought of, inform your career choices, develop your skills and help you gain the attitudes and behaviours expected at work.
