Course overview
This course is an ideal way to begin your studies in carpentry and joinery. It covers the underpinning knowledge required to set you up for a future in either site carpentry or bench joinery. You will gain a thorough grounding and understanding of construction techniques and the industry to help you move into employment within the sector.
The course contains a mix of practical and theory, all delivered in our bespoke workshops that mirror the environment of a real life workplace.
Our qualifications are taught by fully qualified industry professionals, passing on their knowledge to allow you to enter a driven industry and lead in the future of the sector.
Studies at the Stephen Burke Construction Academy allow you to progress in safe, realistic working environments. You’ll learn practical skills alongside the underpinning principles required to be successful in the industry.
All courses offer enrichment opportunities and work experience with partners in the industry such as St. Modwen Homes to offer the chance to complete exciting customer and industry driven projects and gain experiences which bridge the gap between education and employment.
Each year, learners are also given the opportunity to be nominated for a prestigious learner of the year award which guarantees an interview for an exciting position at St. Modwen Homes as trainee in either site management/technical management or quantity surveying.

Entry requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade 1 or an equivalent qualification

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a range of practical tasks and written assessments, all completed at our Stephen Burke Construction Academy.

What can I do next?
This course runs parallel to carpentry and joinery apprenticeships, as such completion can lead to employment and entry to programmes at an advanced stage. Completion can also lead to either direct employment or offer the opportunity to progress your craft based studies to an advanced ability in the Level 2 Diploma in either Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery. This will refine your skills and introduce more complex methods and techniques in readiness for the world of work.
