Students at Burton and South Derbyshire College are set to benefit from brand new facilities after the College successfully secured funding through the Government’s Stronger Towns Fund. The facilities boost will include a Mechatronics Suite, Cyber Security Lab, Creative Digital Learning Hub, Games Development Suite and Health and Social Care Suite.
Simulation is an important aspect of our health and social care programmes. In our new Health and Social Care Suite, learners will regularly spend time in these areas to practice technical skills and use the latest technologies in a safe and supportive environment. Simulation manikins will be used and programmed to act like humans, and ‘moulage’ – the process of applying mock, often gorily realistic injuries for training purposes. These facilities are crucial to enable role-play sessions which will allow BSDC to provide realistic scenarios where students can gain experience, exposure and feedback to boost their confidence before going out into the workplace.
Through partnerships with local health care providers, the College will develop cutting edge digital and augmented teaching, learning and assessment aids to develop learners’ practical skills and to support their transition from simulated to real world environments.
