Our Health Simulation Suite provides Health and Social Care learners with simulated environments to gain knowledge, skills and experience within a range of health and social care settings. The Health Simulation Suite features:

    • A replica hospital ward with three beds, including a nurse’s station and specialist equipment, in partnership with University Hospitals of Derby, Burton NHS Foundation Trust and Staffordshire University.
    • An Immersive Interactive Simulation Suite with virtual reality technology, interactive 3D graphics and audio content to provide a multi-sensory learning environment.
    • A replica care home environment with a living room, bedroom and washing facilities, as well as equipment such as hoists, slings, sliding boards and simulation manikins.

Simulation is an important aspect of our health and social care programmes. Learners will regularly spend time in these areas to practice technical skills and use the latest technologies in a safe and supportive environment. Simulation manikins are used and programmed to act like humans and ‘moulage’, the process of applying mock injuries for training purposes. These facilities are crucial to enable role-play sessions which allow BSDC to provide realistic scenarios where students can gain experience, exposure and feedback to boost their confidence before going out into the workplace.
