Students climb high to reach their goals!

    09 May 2023

A group of Public Services students recently went on a rock climbing expedition, testing their skills at the Orange House climbing centre in Finestrat, Spain.

The adventurous students spent five days developing their fitness and skills in rock climbing, abseiling and mountaineering, under the expert tuition of qualified mountain instructors.

The Orange House is located in Finestrat, a small village in the mountains behind Benidorm and a 35 minute drive from Alicante Airport.

Burton and South Derbyshire College’s Public Services courses give students the skills and qualities needed to be an effective member of the protective services, including the police, fire, ambulance, prison and military services. The College’s partnerships with local services ensure students are gaining real world experience that will be required for success in their future careers.

Rob Stevenson, Course Leader for Public Services at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “The students worked together well, rising to the challenge and persevering until they achieved their goals. Expeditions like this one really help to develop students’ team work skills and resilience, which will be crucial as they start their careers in the public services.”
