    Students celebrate success at BSDC!

    17 August 2023

Students were celebrating at Burton and South Derbyshire College on Thursday 17th August after receiving their results for Level 3 applied, technical and vocational qualifications.

Many students receiving their results on the day will now be going forward to undertake degree courses at university, further training or employment.

Adele Hunt, Level 3 Performing Arts student achieved a triple distinction star on her course and is now progressing to a degree at LMA Liverpool. Adele said: “I’m really happy with my results – I’ve worked so hard to get them and it’s great to finally see it on paper. I’ve always loved performing, expressing myself and story-telling. During my course, I was the lead in our musical and I have got a lot of work out of the National Adventure Farm’s Screamfest, which has been great industry experience. I’m now looking forward to taking my training that one step further at university. I’d love to be a performer in musicals in the future; anything where I can get on stage and do what I want to do.”

Meanwhile, Habiba Ahmed and Morgan Austin-Dolan both achieved distinctions and distinction stars on the Level 3 Business Management course. Habiba said: “I’m really proud of myself – I didn’t expect to get the distinction star! I’m now going to study Law at university and I would like to be a criminal solicitor in the future. With business, it will give you the skills to help you with anything you want to do in the future. For instance, I want to be a solicitor and open my own firm so I’ll need those business skills and that knowledge to help me open up a business of my own and run it successfully.”

Morgan added: “I’m really happy with my results and to have got a place at the university I wanted – I’m over the moon with it! I’m now going to study Business Marketing at university and for my career, I’d like to work my way up in business and see where it takes me. I would eventually like to set up my own company, so the course has been a valuable experience. I think it’s important for people to realise that BTECs are the same as A-Levels when it comes to UCAS points. As long as you work hard, you can get into university just the same as people taking A-Levels.”

Also achieving distinctions and distinction stars on the day were Computing learners, Silva Merino and Callum Churches. Silva undertook the App Development course and is now in the final stages of applying for an RAF Apprenticeship in Cyberspace Communication. Fellow computing student, Callum took the Cyber Security route and is now going to study a Foundation Degree in Computer Science in the College’s University Centre.

Callum said: “I’m really pleased with my results – it will help me progress to the next stage. I’ve always had a keen interest in computing and I’ve really enjoyed my studies so far. During my course, I had the chance to do an industry placement at JTF Wireless which led to me gaining paid employment; it’s a great place to work. I’m now progressing to the Foundation Degree in Computer Science at BSDC. I would like to get into Network Administration, managing a company’s network of computers and systems; that’s my goal.”

Ryan Halford, Vice Principal at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “We’re extremely proud of the high achievements of our students across a wide range of technical and professional qualifications, many of whom are now going forward to university or progressing to higher education courses at the college. We are committed to ensuring that all of our students have an engaging learning experience that will help them achieve their future career goals.”
