Students climb their way to success in rock climbing expedition

A group of Protective Service students from Burton and South Derbyshire College recently embarked on a rock-climbing adventure, testing their abilities at the Orange House climbing centre in Finestrat, Spain.

Over the course of five days, the students enhanced their fitness and climbing skills, as well as their techniques in abseiling and mountaineering, all under the guidance of qualified mountain instructors.
The Orange House is situated in Finestrat, a small village in the mountains between Benidorm, just a 35 minute drive from Alicante Airport.

Burton and South Derbyshire College’s Protective Services courses give students the skills and qualities needed to be an effective member of the protective services, including the police, fire, ambulance, prison and military services. The College’s partnerships with local services ensure students are gaining real world experience that will be required for success in their future careers.

Rob Stevenson, Course Leader for Protective Services at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “The students worked exceptionally well as a team, taking on the challenge and pushing through to meet their goals. Expeditions like this one are invaluable in building teamwork and resilience, both of which are key as they move forward into careers in public services.
