BSDC Football and Education students lift league trophy at Wembley Stadium

Football and Education students at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) are celebrating after an unbeaten season saw them crowned CEFA Central One League champions for the second year running, lifting the trophy at Wembley Stadium.

The team, who study on the Football and Education programme delivered in partnership with Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT), went the entire season without losing a game. They won 13 matches and drew one, scoring over 50 goals and conceding just 12.

To mark their achievement, the students visited Wembley Stadium where they were awarded their league winner’s trophy on the iconic steps ahead of the League One Play-Off Final between Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient.

The Football and Education programme gives students aged 16 to 19 the opportunity to combine their studies with professional football training. Open to both male and female students, the course provides an insight into the wider sporting industry while supporting students to develop their performance on the pitch and succeed academically.

Ben Foley, Sport Course Leader at BSDC said: “Winning the league title for the second year in a row is a fantastic achievement and we are extremely proud of the hard work and determination our learners have shown throughout the season. Their commitment both in the classroom and on the pitch has been outstanding. This success reflects the values we promote through the Football and Education programme.”
