Big lunch brings together charities and volunteers at BSDC

Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) welcomed local charities and organisations to its Mulberry Restaurant and Bistro for a special Big Lunch event on Thursday 12th June, celebrating the charities and organisations making a real difference in the local community.

The event was attended by his Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Barbara Hyde DL, and served as a meaningful opportunity to thank the college’s community partners, charitable organisations and volunteers.

Representatives from a wide range of organisations attended, including YMCA, Burton Hope, Staffordshire Police, Support Staffordshire, SARAC and the National Brewery Heritage Trust. The event offered guests the opportunity to connect, share their experiences and celebrate the positive impact of their work, all while enjoying a traditional afternoon tea prepared and served by Catering and Hospitality students in the College’s Mulberry Restaurant.

The Big Lunch event is the UK’s annual get-together for communities, held by further education colleges across the West Midlands to bring people together through food, conversation and fun. It’s a chance to reflect on collective achievements, build connections and inspire continued collaboration. Last year, more than ten million people took part in Big Lunch events across the country, from relaxed picnics to afternoon teas and community lunches.

The Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Barbara Hyde DL, said: “I am truly inspired by the dedication and compassion shown by our local charities and community organisations. Their tireless efforts are making a genuine difference in people’s lives, and events like this are a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate their incredible impact.”
