BACT football student nominated for EFL award

    18 March 2019

Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) and Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) Football and Education student, Ella Doocey has been shortlisted to receive national recognition following her nomination for an English Football League (EFL) award.

The Football and Education programme has been run in partnership between BACT and BSDC for over ten years and is designed to guide males and females aged 16-18 through a journey of being athletes via Level 2 and Level 3 sport qualifications. The course combines practical and theory based approaches to increase an athlete’s performance on the field, enabling their football performance to excel, along with increased knowledge of the wider sporting industry.

Students often progress onto the Foundation Degree in Football Coaching at BSDC, along with a range of university pathways. Additionally, selected students are supported by the trust and college to gain International Football Scholarships.

Ella, who plays for the Football and Education Ladies Team, as well as for Burton Albion Ladies, was nominated for the EFL CEFA Ladies Player of the Year award by manager James Billings, following a fantastic season both on and off the pitch. The nomination will take her to the EFL Awards gala held in London on Sunday 7th April.

James Billings, Football and Education Manager, said: “We’re delighted that Ella has received this nomination and will get to attend such a high-profile event in London. She’s had a fantastic year and been our top scorer this season. She’s gone from strength to strength in her education and has really excelled.”

Fleur Robinson, Commercial Director, said: “It’s quite clear how well our Football and Education programme is doing and for one of our representatives to receive a nomination like this is a real honour for our club. We’d like to thank Ella for all her hard work and wish her the best of luck.”

Amrit Virk, Deputy Director of Curriculum at Burton and South Derbyshire College, said: “We are very proud of Ella and this announcement is great news for her and her team. The teaching team and football coaches always ensure Ella aspires to achieve her targets both on and off the pitch. Ella works tremendously hard keeping on top of her academic work and maintaining her athletic performance, and we wish her all the best for the awards evening.”
