Students stand united for performing arts festival
10 April 2019
Performing Arts students at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently held their Unite Festival within their Fleet Street Studios.
The annual Unite Performing Arts Festival is organised by BSDC dance degree students and is designed to showcase their talents in a range of styles in front of a public audience.
The festival also celebrates the talent of the performing arts community with guest performances from local dance/gymnastic troops and performing arts groups, including The Dance Factory, UC Dance, Just Perform Dance and Theatre School, Wendy Bates School of Dancing and Pat Miller School of Dance. The Unite Festival is packed full of different, exciting and inspirational performances and opportunities for students to develop and grow as performers.
This year, students showcased their Strictly Come Dancing samba performance for a dazzling finish to the show. This was a routine learnt from a workshop they recently took part in with Art in Motion, a dance company owned by Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden.
Zoe Hopkins, Performing Arts Lecturer at BSDC commented: “We are proud of how the Unite Performing Arts Festival has grown over the years. The festival is a great opportunity for our students to perform and for the local community to get involved in a fantastic project. A variety of people from schools, community dance and theatre projects were involved, ranging from juniors to adults. It was a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the performing arts.”
