BSDC signs MoU with Liaoyuan School

Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently welcomed a delegation of representatives from Liaoyuan Vocational and Technical School in China.
This visit followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the provision of future student exchange programmes at BSDC during the College’s recent participation in the China–Britain Business Council’s (CBBC) Western China International Fair (WCIF) in Chengdu, China.
Ann Walton, International Manager at BSDC represented the College at the fair, joining the 2018 Sichuan Vocational Education Development Forum to discuss the development of vocational education to meet the growing international demand for skills in key industries. Ann also took part in a range of collaborative activities and visits to state high schools and colleges to discuss future collaborations.
The delegation from Liaoyuan Vocational and Technical School toured the facilities at the College, observed classes and met with key staff members to gain a greater understanding of the potential of this educational partnership. The visit concluded with an official MoU signing ceremony relating to the future provision of qualified and specialist teachers from BSDC travelling to Liaoyuan to deliver modern, vocationally specific and interesting lessons in Healthcare, Nursery Education, Vehicle Repair or Food Safety.
John Beaty, Deputy Principal said of the partnership: “Having the delegation from Liaoyuan at the College gave us the opportunity to discuss the many similarities between our respective organisations and to look at ways in which we can work together and collaborate for mutual benefit. We are incredibly excited about the potential of this relationship and the impact it could have on our continued efforts to ensure that BSDC has a global footprint. The international work we do at BSDC is a real success story and continues to provide many benefits for us as a college, our learners and our employees. I look forward to securing further collaborative opportunities with Liaoyuan in the future.”
