Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) students are currently using their talents to scare by taking part in work experience placements as actors and makeup artists at the National Forest Adventure Farm’s Screamfest.

Between 10th October and 2nd November, the National Forest Adventure Farm is being transformed at night into a terrifying Halloween experience with five scare attractions. Each attraction has a strong storyline, show programmed music and lighting, detailed sets and defined characters, including the latest scare attraction, Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo.

During the event’s run, more than 60 BSDC student actors will be transformed into demons, zombies, clowns, witches and vampires to make up the five scare attractions. They have been trained by the National Forest Adventure Farm’s performance scare experts, specialising in scare techniques to provide the ultimate experience.

Meanwhile, 10 BSDC Hair and Media Makeup students have been working with professional makeup artists to make the actors look as shocking and as gruesome as possible in just over an hour before the event goes live each night.

Gemma Haley, Performing Arts Lecturer at Burton and South Derbyshire College commented: “Screamfest is a fantastic event and students are delighted to have the opportunity to get involved. Projects like this provide great work experience for students, as they prepare for their future careers.”

Tom Robinson joint owner of the National Forest Adventure Farm said: “We are very proud to offer work experience to students from Burton and South Derbyshire College at Screamfest each year, they breathe life into the event.

“Our creative team enjoy nurturing new talent and offering exciting experiences to act or be part of the behind the scenes team – so they become more confident individuals. Thank you to all the students for their commitment and hard work.”
