Purr-forming Arts students bring Puss in Boots to the stage

Burton and South Derbyshire College’s (BSDC) Performing Arts students brought classic tale, Puss in Boots to the College’s Fleet Street Studios stage between 10th and 12th December.

Puss in Boots is a traditional “rags to riches” story about a crafty cat who uses trickery and deceit to gain power, wealth and a princess’ hand in marriage for his poor master. The feline is by no means an ordinary cat, requesting a pair of boots and promising to make his master’s fortune.

The students showcased their talent and flaunted vibrant make-up and costumes to bring the cunning cat, penniless master, evil ogre and more characters to life for the audience’s entertainment.

The annual Christmas pantomime is just one of many opportunities for students to develop their talents and gain confidence in performing, whether they are aspiring actors, choreographers, dancers, set designers or stage managers.

Catherine Palfreyman, Performing Arts Lecturer at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “It was very exciting for the students to be performing the pantomime on stage to a paying audience at our very own Fleet Street Studios. Performances like this one are an opportunity for students to come together to showcase their talents, providing them with excellent experience of staging their own production as they look to begin their careers in the performing arts industry.”

Burton and South Derbyshire College works in partnership with The National Theatre, Derby Theatre and Flexus, and employs lecturers with industry links and experience to train and develop the industry knowledge of the next generation of performers, preparing them for the professional world.
