Remembrance Day marked by students and staff at BSDC
11 November 2020
A small number of Public Services students and staff from Burton and South Derbyshire College were selected to take part in Burton’s Remembrance Day service by laying a wreath in the Memorial Grounds outside the College, culminating in a two minute silence at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.
Meanwhile, instead of gathering outside as in previous years, staff and students marked the two minute silence in their classrooms to ensure social distancing measures were upheld.
The College is also displaying an exhibition of remembrance for students in the reception of its Town Centre Campus, including steel soldiers that have been created by staff in the Creative Department using a specialist CNC Plasma Cutter. The soldiers are being sold for a minimum donation of £7 each and all proceeds will be donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Rob Stevenson, Public Services Lecturer at Burton and South Derbyshire College said: “It was an honour for the College to take part in this year’s socially distanced remembrance service. It has also been great to see the exhibition the creative staff and students have put together to mark the day. It’s so important that generations to come continue to remember those service personnel who have given their lives in wars and conflicts, past and present.”
