On 11 November 2021 the Department for Education (DfE) and Ofqual set out its contingency plans for the awarding of GCSEs in the event there is once again disruption to education and / or examinations as a result of the pandemic.

The plans outline the contingency measures providers are required to put in place as a back-up plan in the unlikely event that exams are once again cancelled. It advises that, for subjects which are usually assessed by examinations, providers are required to assess candidates three times during the academic year: the first during the second half of the autumn term, the second during the spring term and the third in the first half of the summer term.

The guidance dictates, that wherever possible, providers must either assess all of its candidates who are taking a particular qualification using the same material at the same time or using different materials at different times. This is of course done to ensure outcomes are robust, fair, and reliable measures of performance. These new arrangements will now supersede our original mock examination plans which learners will have been working towards over the past few weeks.

Following this, the College has opted to set its first mock examinations on Friday 10 December 2021 at the town centre campus, as it feels this is the most reliable way to determine grade outcomes should its contingency measures be required:

Examination Details:

  • Friday 10 December 2021 GCSE Maths 9:30 – 11:00 (University Centre Entrance)
  • Friday 10 December 2021 GCSE English 13:00 –14:45 (University Centre Entrance)

It goes without saying that attendance at these mock examinations is vitally important as these outcomes may be used to inform teacher assessed grades (TAGs) in the event the summer examination series is cancelled.

Therefore, please can we ask for your support and encouragement to attend on this day. Learners will be permitted to attend these examinations if this is their normal day rather than attending their normal vocational timetable.

Thank you in advance for your support.
