Cheryl pursues her passion for the environment with distance learning course!

    13 June 2022

Cheryl Hunter, an Access to Higher Education Course Leader at BSDC has recently pursued her passion for the environment by completing the College’s free Distance Learning course, Level 2 Understanding Sustainability.

Cheryl has been heavily concerned about environmental issues for many years and has been an avid supporter of groups such as Greenpeace and WWF. Her desire to spread awareness and be proactive in educating people to make a difference led her to creating a new pathway for Access to HE to include environmental issues such as pollution and conservation.

The Level 2 Understanding Sustainability online free course added to Cheryl’s knowledge and enabled her to learn at her own pace, fitting it around her job and home life. Cheryl said: “It has widened my understanding and depth of knowledge about sustainability.  The information was very practical and applicable, and I was able to link the information to real world scenarios.”

Cheryl added: “What impacted me most was the practical knowledge and scenarios about businesses and policies that are in place that I was not aware of previously. The links to resources were excellent and I was able to discuss the information with friends, family and learners. I now intend to develop the Access pathway to include more suitability topics as I feel better able to share information and have a sense of authority on the subject because of the course.”

The Level 2 Understanding Environmental Sustainability Distance Learning course provides an overview of the principles of sustainable development, communities and energy management, and the social responsibility of businesses in relation to sustainability.
