BSDC raises impressive funds for local foodbanks

Community spirit is shining bright at Burton and South Derbyshire College as kind-hearted students, staff and members of the local community have come together online to fundraise for local foodbanks: Burton YMCA, The Salvation Army and South Derbyshire CVS.
The fundraising effort is part of the ‘FE Foodbank Friday’ campaign, which has seen FE organisations around the country come together to raise money for community foodbanks. The pandemic has seen a decline in donations to foodbanks, and the FE Foodbank Friday campaign was designed to provide a valuable boost at this challenging time.
During the five months of fundraising, the College has raised an impressive £1,214.16, which has been split between three local foodbanks, Burton YMCA, The Salvation Army and South Staffordshire CVS.
Additionally, the College has a physical foodbank at its Burton Town Centre campus, which collects donations from students and staff throughout the year in partnership with Burton YMCA.
Paula Senior, Fundraising Officer at Burton YMCA said: “We’re very grateful to the College for this kind donation. What a fantastic initiative to support the local community and several foodbanks, who will all have experienced a huge demand for their service over the last six months.”
Dawn Ward CBE, Chief Executive and Principal of Burton and South Derbyshire College added: “In these extraordinary and difficult times, it’s more important than ever for the College to do what it can to help those in need in the local area. Supporting the FE Foodbank Friday campaign is our way of coming together with other colleges across the country to support our local communities and have a positive impact on the lives of those in need.”
