Course overview
This qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in the hairdressing and barbering industry, including cutting, styling, blow-drying, setting, long hair up-dos and colouring.
You will also study theory units, including health and safety, client care, communication and retail.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your maths and English skills, as well as participate in enrichment activities such as attending hairdressing shows and seeing demonstrations from international hairdressers.

Entry requirements
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or an equivalent qualification

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed practically within a realistic working environment and complete either assignments or online tests to assess knowledge and understanding.

What can I do next?
You could progress to Level 3 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty or an apprenticeship. You could also gain employment within a hair salon or barber shop.

English & Maths
Being confident with maths and English is not only important for everyday life but it’s expected as standard in the world of work. We’re committed to ensuring our learners have the full range of skills that universities and employers are looking for. If you haven’t yet achieved grade 4 (grade C) in English and maths and are aged between 16-18 years, you will continue to study these by undertaking a GCSE re-sit programme or appropriate stepping stone qualifications in addition to your vocational learning programme.

Uniform
As part of your course, you will be required to purchase an industry related uniform and/or kit. Please find details of industry related uniforms in the Student Life section of the website.
If you live independently and are in receipt of certain means tested benefits in your own right or live in a low-income household, you may be eligible for one of our grants. Work experience is a chance to you to spend time on an employer’s premises, observing the workplace, undertaking tasks (under supervision) alongside team members and learning the skills and behaviours needed at work.
